2024

116th Annual meeting of the German Zoological Society (DZG) in Stuttgart

Satellite Symposium „Integrative Taxonomy“ | September 10, 2024

Lets talk about Integrative Taxonomy!

This symposium aims to present state-of-the-art research from established scientists applying methods and principles of integrative taxonomy. Keynote talks are intended to provide impetus, stimulate discussion, and are supplemented by short presentations by early career scientists.

Our aim is to stimulate the use of diverse methods and approaches to better understand biodiversity.

Invited speakers Satellite Symposium:

Julia Sigwart
Senckenberg Society for Nature Research
„Why is there no service to support taxonomy?“

Oliver Niehuis
University of Freiburg
„The Importance of Integrative Taxonomy in the DNA Barcoding Era“

Christian Rabeling

114th Annual meeting of the German Zoological Society (DZG) in Bonn

Satellite Symposium „Facets of Biodiversity“ | September 13, 2022

Biodiversity change, biodiversity loss, and the resulting Biodiversity Crisis have recently made their way on the public agenda. In biology, the issue encompasses several facets, e.g. detection of biodiversity and the mechanisms that lead to biodiversity change. In the planned satellite symposium, we want to discuss diverse topics around the main conference theme „Biodiversity Change“. We plan to address different aspects and methods used in biodiversity research. Furthermore, we would like to give young scientists the opportunity to report on their current projects on the topic of „Facets of biodiversity“. Our four invited speakers are early carrier scientists that study biodiversity by using different approaches including morphology, multidimensional models, phylogenomics, and integrative taxonomy in a variety of animal groups. Finally, we look forward to learn about their experiences, e.g. on public outreach and perception, future prospects and challenges, and discuss these subjects with you.

Invited speakers Satellite Symposium:

Frédéric Schedel
Zoological Institute, University of Basel
„Adaptive Radiations in Chichlids of the Great African Lakes“

Eva Katharina Engelhardt
Biodiversity & Global Change Lab, Technical University of Munich
„Influence of Land Use and Climate Change on Insect Biodiversity“
